The Sam Katz Community Health and Aging Research Unit aim is to identify ways to enable positive and sustained aging at home, and to maximize the positive collective abilities, resilience and resourcefulness of communities as a whole. The Caregiving Research Lab is housed within the research unit. Our research focuses on formal and informal/family caregiving. We are particularly interested in investigating how to enhance person-centred communication for individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
Be EPIC is one of the products developed from extensive research by our lab. Be EPIC is an innovative, evidence-informed and theoretically-grounded person-centered communication intervention for frontline dementia care workers. Be EPIC is a unique training program because it involves minimal didactic learning (typically classroom learning style) and focuses on practicing skills using simulated persons with dementia and feedback from peers and experts.
