Role: Home Support Worker/ Caregiver/ Companion/PSW/HCA

As a Home Support Worker, Personal Support Worker, Resident Companion, Caregiver, Care Attendant, or Health Care Aide, you will help seniors in your community live independently and safely by assisting them with daily tasks and self-care activities.

You will have the opportunity to participate in both complimentary and paid training programs specifically designed to equip you with the necessary skills for the positions of Home Support Worker, Caregiver, Resident Companion, HCA or Personal Support Worker. Upon successful completion of the training, you will be eligible for full-time employment. Benefits will be available following the completion of a three-month probationary period.

What you will do:

  • Provide healthcare services to seniors at their preferred location (London and surrounding areas)

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living. This includes feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, perineal care, dressing, grooming, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting.

  • Prepare meals and assist with feeding

  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming, washing dishes, laundry, meal planning and preparation.

  • Engagement in recreational activities, like promoting an individual’s hobbies and routines or assisting them with mental/brain stimulation.

  • Perform delegated tasks in compliance with the Regulated Health Professions Act for which transfer, or functional training has been completed. This includes palliative or end of life care.

  • Assist with ambulation, positioning, and transferring using mechanical lifts such as a Hoyer

  • Provide companionship and respite care support for the well-being of elders and their families.

  • Assist with personal hygiene care including showering and bathing

What you bring:

  • A high school diploma and on-the-job training or completion of a personal support worker, nursing aide, or health care aide program at a college or private institution, or a college nursing orderly program, along with supervised practical training, are required.

  • 2-4 years experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities is required

  • Ability to travel between assignments either by transit or car. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are essential assets.

  • First Aid and CPR Level C Certificate, WHMIS, Health and Safety Awareness and AODA Certificates.

  • Computer Literacy, Microsoft, keyboarding skills

  • Proficient verbal and written English communication skills.

  • Valid Criminal and Vulnerable Police Check

  • Ability to take directions and work unsupervised while following policies and procedures

  • Prior experience working with individuals with dementia
